One10 takes a strategic approach to training by starting with a full assessment. How do you evaluate a client’s current training program, and what opportunities do you typically uncover during that process?
It all starts with a consultative discussion with all clients. This key step is important to explore their business challenges and understand the root cause. Often, clients have specific solutions in mind that don’t always overcome the problems they are trying to solve. One10 looks at performance within the context of the whole organization, recognizing the interdependency of the various factors that affect performance. By using this approach, we can recommend solutions that are targeted, relevant and will impact their business in a positive way.
One10’s training team includes professionals with advanced degrees and deep industry experience. How does that expertise shape the way we design and deliver training solutions for our clients?
I am privileged to work alongside some of the most distinguished individuals in our field. Our team consists of highly educated and experienced professionals who excel in human performance improvement, including training, adult education, and instructional design.
Everyone on the team has qualifications, including bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees. The combination of academic credentials and practical knowledge gives us credibility and instills confidence in our ability to deliver effective solutions.
Training today can take many forms—from onboarding to product education to leadership development. What are some of the most effective types of learning One10 offers, and how do you tailor them to different audiences?
The effectiveness of a solution is determined by its ability to meet a need or address a business challenge, and it must be relevant to the learner. With our team’s vast experience, we keep the learner in mind while achieving our clients’ business goals. We can develop customized solutions for a variety of subject matter across various industries because our learning philosophies and approach are universal. When we collaborate with subject matter experts, we’re able to take something complex and synthesize it so that it is easily understood by the intended audience.
In your experience, what are some of the most common mistakes companies make when it comes to training and communication—and how can One10 help them course correct?
Some clients believe training is the answer to all performance issues, when in fact training is only appropriate when skills or knowledge are lacking. That’s why we lead by asking questions about their challenges and goals to ensure the initiatives they are implementing will achieve their intended objectives. If a client is not certain about the effectiveness of their training and communication, we can review the content and make recommendations for improvement.
What excites you most about leading the training function at One10, and what should clients expect when partnering with us to elevate their learning strategies?
As a leader, my goal is to foster synergies, drive innovation, and motivate the team toward continued excellence in everything we do. It’s important to fulfill responsibilities to our clients, but it’s also important for us to remain informed about industry trends, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.
I believe investing in our team in these ways creates a stronger One10 employee experience and it translates to better, more innovative learning and communication strategies for our clients to drive measurable results.
Clients who engage with our team can expect the highest level of engagement, collaboration and partnership — we are an extension of their team.
Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to a career in training and learning strategy? What continues to inspire you about this work?
My career in Learning and Development officially launched when I obtained my Ducktorate Degree in Management — Disney Style from Disney University. That’s where I discovered my affinity for working with people and developed an interest in facilitation and adult education. After finishing this program, I enrolled at Oakland University for a bachelor’s degree in human resource development, specializing in training and development. From that point forward, hard work and mentorships with professors and professionals significantly influenced my career growth.
I am grateful for the opportunities I have had over the years to learn all facets of this profession. My passion for my field remains strong because I love seeing the proverbial ‘light bulb’ illuminate when someone learns something — this applies equally to my team members. Facilitating growth, development, and learning in others is what motivates me.
What do you love to do outside of work? Are there any hobbies or interests that help you recharge or relate to your role?
I am deeply passionate about my work, which motivates me to volunteer my time to support Oakland University. I serve on a board and oversee a mentoring program that connects professionals with students, enabling the students learn directly from those practicing within specific fields.
Outside of work, I value spending time with my family and pets. I enjoy listening to music, dancing, painting, and crafting. I am energized by activities that are enjoyable, free from stress, and create positive memories.
